Players who have reached the rank of HERO and who do not wish to petition for immortality or to remain heroes have only one other option: remorting. Remorting is the chance for a HERO to be reincarnated into a new race and class, and to start life anew. Remorting into a new character carries many options and benefits, as well as some drawbacks. Players who decide to remort may choose one of the standard races or classes, or choose from one of the remort only races and classes.

There are certain benefits to remorting. Remorters do not receive sub-issue
equipment or use the "outfit" command. Instead, they use remort issue
equipment, which is exceptional and extremely powerful, and usable only by remort
characters. Remorted characters may challenge other players to combat in the
Arena--an ability reserved only for them. They also gain other miscellaneous
skills and abilities. Lastly, players who remort are able to use all mortal
channels and can use the REMTALK channel which is for remorts only (see help
remtalk). However, in the same way that characters may loose some privileges
upon remorting, characters who had additional channel privileges before remorting,
will lose those privileges once they remort.

Once a player has remorted a character, additional skills and spell groups cannot
be gained, ever. Players must customize if they desire additional skills, and
they will be limited to those skills and spell groups chosen until such a time
as they reach immortality or remort again. Players who decide to remort will
retain very little of their former life. Players' names will remain unchanged,
as will their religions, their priest status, and their gold in the bank. However,
all other powers and wealth are permanently lost: equipment, statistics and
skill/spell percentages, skill levels, i.e. everything. Additionally, remorters
begin as a semi-typical level one and
often have to repeat mud school. It is also MUCH harder for the average remorter
to level, and this added difficulty cannot be eased through regular means. The
last major drawback is that players who decide to remort must abandon their
immortal levels and all work done towards those levels; no credit towards immortality
is given for remorting and any levels gained before the remort act are abandoned.
(e.g. Char1 is a level 95 Immortal who has written 5 areas. He decides to remort.
After he remorts, Char1 no longer benefits from his former levels. When he reaches
level 91 again, Char1 must reperform immtasks and the immproject, just like
any other 91 character who has attained hero status for the first time. Char1's
work that was completed before remorting is still his, but it no longer applies
to his IMM level.).

Because of the seriousness of this command, players need to type remort TWICE
in order to be reincarnated. Players should think carefully before deciding
to remort. The decision cannot be undone
